He was 18 years old. He married my mother while in training in Georgia prior to shipping out for England. They said goodbye and off he went to land on Omaha Beach at H+30 hours. I can't imagine the sheer terror of offloading a landing craft and trying to scale the beach. B, 116th Regiment, landed at H +30 on Omaha Beach at Dog Green. He survived the landing but suffered shrapnel wounds from an artillery shell 29 June 1944, at St. Lo, Normandy, France.
